Boys' Hockey Team Compete in Pearson Cup Qualifiers
Today, the boys' hockey team travelled to Cookstown High School to take part in the Pearson Cup Qualifiers. The tournament featured teams from Augher, Coagh, Donaghey, Moneymore, Orritor, Ballytrea, and Cookstown, making for a highly competitive event.
The Coagh team put in a fantastic effort, competing strongly in all their matches, especially considering that none of the players currently attend hockey outside of school. They were unfortunate to suffer narrow 1-0 defeats against Moneymore and Donaghey in matches that looked set to end in a draw. They also faced a 2-0 defeat against Orritor before finishing the tournament with two excellent victories, with goals scored by Micah (1 goal) and Harry (2 goals).
At the end of the tournament, the boys had the opportunity to take part in ‘run-ins’ (hockey’s equivalent of a penalty shootout) against Ballytrea. This was a great experience for the team, as it was their first time participating in this aspect of the game.
Congratulations to Cookstown and Moneymore, who progressed to the finals in Belfast.
A huge well done to all the boys for their outstanding performances, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament.
