Coagh Primary School Eco-Committee

The Coagh Primary School Eco-Committee has been an active part of our school for many years as we proudly participate in the Eco-Schools programme.

“Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life.”

Green Flag Achievements

Schools in the programme work towards earning three internationally recognised awards – Bronze, Silver, and the prestigious Green Flag Award, which symbolises excellence in environmental activity.

We are thrilled to announce that in June 2023, Coagh Primary School achieved its 7th Green Flag Award, a testament to our ongoing commitment to sustainability.

Focus for 2024-2025

The Eco-Schools programme focuses on nine key topics:

  • Energy
  • Water
  • Biodiversity
  • School Grounds
  • Healthy Living
  • Transport
  • Litter
  • Waste
  • Global Citizenship

At Coagh Primary, children are the driving force behind our Eco-Schools initiatives. They lead the Eco-Committee and conduct audits to assess the school’s environmental performance. Alongside the rest of the school community, pupils choose the environmental themes they wish to focus on each year and decide how to address them.

Recent Initiatives and Projects

Our Eco-Committee has been busy over the years with a range of activities, including:

  • Conducting environmental audits and creating action plans
  • Tree, bulb, and shrub planting to enhance our school grounds
  • Clearing and preparing areas for growing projects
  • Leading campaigns such as Waste Week and Switch Off Fortnight
  • Hosting Eco assemblies to raise awareness
  • Organising regular recycling collections and composting
  • Running Cash for Clobber collections to promote textile recycling

We are looking forward to another exciting year of sustainable initiatives and environmental action with our new Eco-Committee for the 2024-2025 school year!
